Blue Water

On the basis that we are all able to meet up I have put in my diary the following paddle days for WCHA members. If there are other wooden canoe owners who you think would like to join us please pass the details on and if we can capture some new members that would be great.

THAMES.

Delia Etherington has kindly offered the use of her field and launching spot on the Thames just outside Lower Shiplake

When:  Sunday 25th July 2021

Where: Bolney Ferry Boathouse, Lower Shiplake, Henley on Thames RG9 3NR

What: A paddle along the Thames, up through Henley and we could go around Temple Island and back stopping for a picnic and if we find a pub even better.

Time: Lets aim to meet for 10am and get on the water as soon as we can

Directions:  From Shiplake station car park - go over level crossing. Take first turning on left into Bolney Road. Go RIGHT to the end where there are iron gates into a drive, usually closed.   Go through the five bar FIELD GATE on the LEFT of these gates, and along a drive through a field, another gate, and into the boathouse parking area.

Delia has suggested that she will put a WCHA sign and an arrow on the gate.

GREAT OUSE

When; Sunday 5th September 2021

Where: Meet at the Huntingdon Rowing Club where there is ample parking and a launch point.

What: A circular paddle up to Godmanchester, down the Cooks backwater, around Hemingford portaging the Rhymers Weir and then to Houghton Mill. We can then return upstream to our start point at Huntingdon. We will stop for a picnic along the route and maybe grab tea and cake at Houghton Mill.

Time: 10am meet.

Directions:  Huntingdon Rowing Club Hartford Road Huntingdon PE29 3RP Its on the rig road, next to the river….naturally!

LITTLE OUSE

When: Sunday 3rd October 2021

Where: Meet at the car park at Canterbury Way Thetford IP24 1EP where there is a launch point.  We will need to do a car shuttle to Brandon.

What: A one way paddle with the flow on this scenic river through Thetford Forest and the Brecks. I may see if I can organise sandwiches and a drink at the Bridge Hotel for us all if people would like but bring a picnic as we will stop at Santon Downham.  It’s 4 hour paddle. I have set this for the autumn as the weed should have cleared by then.

Time: 10am meet at the put in.

Directions. Off the A11 at the Brandon Road roundabout. Turn right towards Thetford. Go past The Warreners PH on the right and at the next "pot of paint "roundabout turn left. the car park is immediately over the river bridge on the right.

We all still need to be Covid aware and safe. We are all in our own canoes outside in the fresh air.

Bring all your normal canoeing gear and a just in case bag. Don’t forget a picnic and drinks. PFD’s please; you know it makes sense.

Please let me know whether or not you can attend so that I can get a handle on numbers etc.

Keep well and safe.
