The late Burt Libby (Burt’s Canoes) built well over 100 wood-canvas canoes in Litchfield, Maine over a span of 30 years. His self-designed canoes are characterized by excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail, the best materials available and great paddling characteristics. Two of his 16 foot canoes are offered for sale.

Both canoes are in pristine condition, having never been in the water and have spent their lives to date as display pieces in a wedding/event venue.

One canoe is Burt’s long deck model with an external stem and OTCA-like deck coaming (Canoe 1). The other is his short deck model (Canoe2) has no external stem, but has the usual stem band. Both have keels, a pleasing tumblehome and nice upward sheer rise to the stems. Outside gunwales and decks are cherry. Inside gunwales are spruce, ribs and planking of northern white cedar. Seats and thwarts are white ash.

Canoe Length: Both canoes 16 feet
