Rushton 109
Replica Built by the
Mystic Seaport Museum
$4500
Condition:
Excellent Original
I believe this to be one of 10 Rushton 109 replicas built by the Mystic Seaport Museum in 1987. The history and craftsmanship of the boat would line up. This was stored for many years by a gentleman on Long Island and was sold to an antique dealer from his estate. I bought it from the antique dealer. It is red cedar lapstrake construction with cast bronze fittings. These 10 boats were built by some of the best boat builders of the time using one of the original J.H. Rushton #109 boats from museum’s inventory as a guide. They also used Rushton’s book of knowledge from the Adirondack Museum for reference. The boat comes with the original leather wrapped oars, cherry wood rudder, and bronze oar locks. Dan Sutherland continued building these boats plated with Sutherland Boat and Coach. You see them come up for sale from time to time. A couple elements of this boat lead me to believe that it is not one of his.
