In 2014 I started restoring a cedar strip/canvas covered canoe. It was probably built in the 1940’s, but had sat in a barn unused for decades. I stripped off the old, rotted canvas, cleaned and sanded the interior, removed the seats and decks. The ribs are all solid and do not need replacing. I made a new cedar plank for where a short section of an old one was damaged, and cut the wood for new gunnels. The stems were rotted at the bow and stern so I removed the old ones and made new stems. I had already purchased new canvas and the material to waterproof the canvas.
Unfortunately at that time I was in a serious accident which required months in the hospital and put me in a wheelchair. I can now walk again, but my legs are no longer sturdy enough to finish the restoration.
I live in Eastern Ontario, Canada. If there is someone who would like this to finish for themselves I am willing to give them the canoe, the canvas, the waterproofing, the brass tacks, and the already prepared wood for the gunnels.
