J. R. Robertson
Norumbega Park
“Courting” Canoe

$3000

Condition:

See description

Sturdy veteran canoe built in Auburndale, MA, for service on the Charles River at Norumbega Park, where a large boathouse offered canoes and row boats for hire starting in 1897 and surviving into the 1950s. (see pics). The exact launch date is not known, but the “cap rail” suggests it was an earlier product from Robertson’s company.

Condition:
Good Usable -- certainly
Excellent Original – yes, in that:

Wood’s all good (except some small sections of the “cap rail”
which I repaired with matching mahogany)
Stripped off old hull paint down to the canvas, filled some sections
Refreshed and refinished all the brightwork
But it was all there, canvas tight.

Carefully Restored

Of note:
It has been sheltered and lightly used since restoration in the 1990s
Canvas recently reprimed and painted using best products from Kirby’s Paints, New Bedford
Included with sale price: cart (pictured) and four high quality paddles

Canoe Length

17 feet
