Paul’s love for boatbuilding started at the age of 14 when he built his first wood-frame / canvas Kayak as part of a club in school. Inspired by his teachers in high school who had built their own cedarstrip canoes, he built his own by the time he graduated in 1987. In 1988 he moved to Muskoka where he started working in a canoe shop and thereafter spent 12 years learning the trade from experienced canoe builders.
In 2013, he established the Lone Pine Canoe Company and now is back to canoe building full time. Paul specializes in repair/restorations to cedar/canvas, all-wood and cedarstrip canoes using traditional methods and materials. He also builds a cedar/canvas replica of a 16’ Chestnut Prospector and cedarstrip canoes in 15’, 16’ or 17’ lengths. Clients can also bring their own cedarstrip plans and have one custom-built.
Lone Pine Canoe Company is a one man shop with a personal interest in each project. Paul’s motto is “Paddle a thing of Beauty”.
