Excellent Restored
1963, 15' Chestnut Bobs Special wood & canvas canoe, completely restored using traditional materials and methods. Has new ash rails, thwarts, seats (with new cane), decks and keel. New brass stem bands. #12 canvas with mildewcide and traditional filler (Kirby). All hardware has been upgraded to marine-grade silicon bronze. Planking and ribs are white cedar. Lost count on the number of coats of varnish - at least 6. 5 exterior coats of Marine Rustoleum (Tremclad) - dark green.
It weighs 58#, and is a joy to paddle with clean entry and shallow-arch bottom. Seats and thwarts are set up in the traditional tandem paddling arrangement. But, can also be rigged for solo paddling in two setups - thwarts only for Canadian-style healed freestyling, or with a single cane seat 5" aft of center on a 4" drop. Requires approximately 15 minutes to change over. New temporary portage thwart in classic Chestnut design also available (not shown in photos). Also available is a new 'hybrid' paddle that switches over from kayak-style to single blade canoe-style and saves that extra piece and weight to carry on portages :) (shown in photos; $170) -- made of laminated cherry with carbon ferrules.
If interested, please contact me for more information and pictures - love, love, love to talk about this special canoe. Happy to arrange delivery, if needed.
