Chestnut Prospector
SOLD
$2200
Condition:
Excellent Restored
This is a 16ft Chestnut Prospector wood/canvas canoe. It has just been completely restored. Ribs and planking are of white cedar, with oak outer rails, spruce inner rails, birch thwarts, and butternut decks. The seats are cherry and are hand caned. There is no keel, and it has brass stem bands at either end. The canvas is brand new as of 2021. All wood is thoroughly protected either by marine grade varnish or by linseed oil for the wood covered by the canvas. The canvas has been 'filled' with a modern filler as well as with a mildewcide. All hardware is either brass or silicon bronze.
The Chestnut Prospector series of canoes are considered to be the perfect canoe for camping or hunting as they can handle a lot of weight, and their design is well suited to large lakes with heavy water. And note that while this canoe is 40 years old it's still quite young - my other wood/canvas canoe is 120 years young and is still as good as new.
I can deliver locally is desired. And note that I also have the 'Chestnut' decals that were used on the sides of the canoe, and can apply then is desired.
